ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The mapping contains 3335 airports and their respective geolocations. You can access the full airport data using the other datasets in our library to get the airports metadata.
This dataset is suited for anyone willing to obtain the ICAO equivalent from their own IATA-coded data, or vice-versa, to obtain the IATA equivalent from their own ICAO-coded data. Also, it will suit anyone trying to harmonize their data containing both IATA and ICAO codes.

Beware, even with this mapping, some airports do not have any ICAO code and some others do not have any IATA code. In order to have identification information for the airports that don’t have any IATA or ICAO code attributed to them, we use the GPS code.

The International Air Transport Association (IATA) is the trade association for the world’s airlines, representing some 290 airlines or 82% of total air traffic. They support many areas of aviation activity and help formulate industry policy on critical aviation issues.

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is a UN specialized agency, established by States in 1944 to manage the administration and governance of the Convention on International Civil Aviation (Chicago Convention).

In contrast to IATA codes, each airport has a unique ICAO code. Documentation and communication systems mainly use an IATA code. Pilots and air traffic controllers use an ICAO code. Mostly because an ICAO code is unique and an IATA code can be the same on several airports.
